BZRK Apocalypse

BZRK Apocalypse

Michael Grant

The Matrix meets Inner Space in this third book in the BZRK trilogy from New York Times best-selling author Michael Grant.
The members of BZRK are preparing for their final stand. Noah and Sadie have seen death, and it holds no fear for them. Madness does, though. And losing each other. But they will not sit back, the only witnesses to an invisible apocalypse. The world is being destroyed from the inside out. It's time for them to fight to the last, in the streets and in the nano.
The staggering conclusion to the BZRK trilogy is a story with both thrills and heart, packed with the author's trademark jaw-dropping set pieces and pace.
From School Library Journal
Gr 7 Up—In an impeccable reading by Nico Evers-Swindell, the members of BZRK are back together to solve the mystery of nanobot attacks on seemingly unrelated groups, from Hollywood celebrities to Nobel Prize winners. Are the attacks coming from their nemesis, the conjoined-twin owners of the Armstrong Fancy Gifts Company, or are the attacks coming from somewhere even more sinister? Evers-Swindell keeps listeners on the edges of their seats as the truly scary and sometimes bloody final book of this trilogy comes to a conclusion. Each character is unique and realistic; for example, after Bugman's unfortunate encounter with a dish of glass fruit, his voice screams out with the sound of swelling lips and broken teeth. This is not a story to listen to without knowledge of the previous two books in the trilogy. There is a fairly graphic sex scene at the beginning of the story and violence throughout. VERDICT There are too many characters and too much backstory to allow this audiobook to stand on its own. But for those who enjoyed the first two volumes, this provides a satisfying ending. —Ann Brownson, Eastern Illinois University, Charleston

Innovating Women

Innovating Women

Farai Chideya

From one of Time Magazine's "Forty Most Influential Minds in Technology" comes an essential collection of candid, first-hand accounts of women in technology.
Women in technology are on the rise in both power and numbers, and now it's more important than ever to not lose that momentum, to "lean in" and close the gender gap. Although they make up half of the population, only 14% of engineers in the United States are women. They take the seeds of technological advancement and build something life-changing, potentially life-saving. The future of technology depends on the full and active participation of women and men working together, and it is vital that women are both educated and encouraged to go into the tech sectors.
Hailed by Foreign Policy Magazine as a "Top 100 Global Thinker," professor, researcher, and entrepreneur Vivek Wadhwa, alongside award-winning journalist Farai Chideya, set out to collect anecdotes and essays from global leaders, sharing how their experiences...
Emergence

Emergence

John Birmingham

For fans of Jim Butcher and Kevin Hearne comes an action-packed new urban fantasy series featuring a tough, bleakly funny, down-on-his luck oil rig worker with an unlikely destiny as a monster-slayer and savior of the planet.
"Monsters," said Vince Martinelli. "There are monsters on the rig, Dave."
Dave Hooper has a hangover from hell, a horrible ex-wife, and the fangs of the IRS deep in his side. The last thing he needs is an explosion at work. A real explosion. On his off-shore oil rig.
But this is no accident, and despite the news reports, Dave knows that terrorists aren't to blame. He knows because he killed one of the things responsible.
When he wakes up in a hospital bed guarded by Navy SEALs, he realizes this is more than just a bad acid trip. Yeah, Dave's had a few. This trip is way weirder.
Killing a seven-foot-tall, tattooed demon has transformed the overweight, balding safety manager into something else entirely. A foul-mouthed, beer-loving monster slayer, and humanity's least worthy Champion.
Dreamer

Dreamer

Brandon Sanderson

Dreamer is a non-Cosmere short horror story by Brandon Sanderson. It is the shortest story published by Sanderson, and his most disturbing and dark work. That first appeared in the Games Creatures Play anthology, edited by Charlaine Harris and Toni Kelner. It is set on Earth and told from the first person perspective of the eponymous character, who is part of a group of dead gamers, poltergeists that must possess the bodies of living people. They use their abilities to play extreme, real-life versions of games like “capture the flag” and “cops and robbers,” showing little regard for collateral damage among the living.
